MSAD #37 POLICY

REFERRAL/PRE-REFERRAL

It shall be the policy of MSAD #37 to refer all school-age students suspected of having a disability that requires special education to the Individualized Educational Plan team (IEP team) for an evaluation in the suspected areas of disability. Referrals of students to the IEP team may be made by professional school staff, by parents, and by other persons knowledgeable about the child's educational needs. A referral in MSAD #37 is initiated upon signature and date of the Special Services Director.

The Superintendent of Schools, in consultation with the Director of Special Education, will develop procedures for referral and the use of pre-referral interventions within the local school unit, and may from time to time amend those procedures as necessary.
