MSAD #37 POLICY

TEMPORARY ADMINISTRATIVE ASSIGNMENTS

Acting principals will be appointed by the Superintendent for each elementary school.

These appointments will be made after consultation (when possible) with the regular principal.  Said appointment will be presented annually for ratification by the Board at the February meeting where teachers are re-elected.

When the principal is absent:

a.            The acting principal shall carry out the regular daily ROUTINE administrative chores.

b.           NON-ROUTINE matters of an urgent nature shall be handled by the acting principal.  In these cases, every effort should be made to consult with the principal and the superintendent before taking final action.  (It is recognized that such a consultation may not be feasible in some instances.)

Acting principals will be compensated when the regular principal’s absence extends (or will extend) beyond three (3) consecutive days.  This compensation will be retroactive to include day one.

Training will be provided (on an annual basis) for the Acting Elementary Principals.

Personal liability insurance, as available through membership in NASSP, will be provided by the Board for the Acting Elementary Principals.

Daily compensation will be equivalent to 15% of the teacher’s regular daily wage.  This will be computed by dividing the teacher’s regular full-time salary by 180 and multiplying that result by .15 and by the number of days served.

                                    1.   Teacher’s salary;

                                    2.   Divide by 180;

                                    3.   Multiply by .15; and,

                                    4.   Multiply by number of days of service.
