All lab reports will include the following sections:
Title Section
[Class Title, Class Period]
[Title of the Lab Report]
[Your Name]
Lab Partners: [list of your lab partners]
[Date that the lab was performed]
Purpose
The purpose should be a short description (one or two sentences) of what you think was the objective of the experiment.
Hypothesis
State your hypothesis and why you feel it is correct.
List of Materials
List all of the materials and equipment used in the experiment.
Procedure
The procedure is a description of how the experiment was performed. It should relate exactly the steps taken and should be written in such a way that ANYONE could reproduce the experiment.
Data
Data is anything you measured. It should be displayed in an organized fashion (tables, charts, etc.).
Calculations and Analysis
Analysis shows what you did with your data. In this portion of the report the raw data collected in the experiment is manipulated to provide results that relate to the stated objective.
Conclusions
The conclusion is the most important part of your report. It is where you summarize your data and results and what you learned from the lab. The conclusion should be a paragraph or two long and should contain the answer as to whether the hypothesis was supported by the results of the experiment or not. If the results support the hypothesis, a brief description of why should be included. If the results do not support the hypothesis, then a possible explanation should be given along with a revised hypothesis, if possible.
