       Classroom Use Rules

General System

* Follow all rules as stated in the MSAD #37 policy for Student Computer and Internet Use and Student Computer and Internet Use Rules.

*Remember that computer use is not a right. It is a privilege that can be revoked.

*      Respect the equipment!  Do not damage the computers, computer systems, or networks by:

§         creating, introducing, or spreading computer viruses

§         physically abusing hardware

§         altering source codes, etc.

*      The computers are for learning purposes only. Do not play games or visit websites not directly associated with an assignment.

*      Icons, taskbars, control panels, wallpaper, screen saver or other properties are to be left as set by the system administrator. DO NOT CHANGE ANY OF THE SETTINGS.

*      Use your Morgaine account for saving and maintaining files. Do not save files to the hard drive of an individual computer.

*      Do not share your login name or password with anyone. Do not use other users’ logins and passwords.

*      Respect other people's files on the computer. Do not change, copy, delete, read or otherwise access files that are not yours or that you do not have permission to access.

*      Avoid excess printing. It is expensive and a waste of trees. When doing research, take notes on the material and record the URL for future use. Do not cut and paste.

*      The teacher is responsible for monitoring computer use and work in progress. Do not try by any means to avoid scrutiny of your work or of what you are doing at any given moment.

Internet

*      Do not click on any advertisements - just close the box or screen.

*      Close the lid of the notebook computer immediately if you find yourself on an inappropriate site.  Raise your hand and wait for the teacher.

*      Absolutely no instant messaging.

*      E-mail is to be used only for learning purposes and as directed by the instructor and/or school policy.

*      Keep personal information private, including name, e-mail address, postal address, phone number, photo, and school address.

*      Plagiarism and the violation of copyright laws are strictly forbidden. The legal rights and intellectual property of others must be protected.

If any of the above rules are broken, one or more of the following consequences may occur:

*      Limitations on or loss of computer use. (Depending on severity of the situation, this could be for a day, a week, a month, or an entire school year at the discretion of the teacher and/or principal.)

*      Warning letter home to the parents from the teacher explaining the violation and its circumstances. This letter must be signed and returned before the student will be allowed computer access again.

*      Additional disciplinary action from the principal, if deemed necessary or required by the district’s usage policy.
